Hodge pessary
The Hodge Pessary is part of the Lever pessary family. It is an excellent pessary for women with an incompetent cervix. The Hodge can be used to treat urinary stress incontinence where a ring can not be tolerated.
The Hodge pessary is perfect when treating patients with a very small introitus. The Hodge helps relieve uterine retrodisplacement that is accompanied by symptoms of backache and/or dysmenorrhea. The folding pessary is manually shaped and the anterior bar is applied behind the pubic arch, there by helping to support the proximal urethra. The use of the Hodge pessary is sometimes recommended to manage an incompetent cervix by repositioning the weight on the growing foetus, as well. The Hodge is available with or without support and also is available with knob with or without support. A Hodge pessary with support is also effective if the patient wishes to exercise. Because of the malleable wires, the pessary must be removed during x-rays, ultrasounds and MRI's.
